Statement regarding LockBit claims

Earlier this morning we became aware of tweets from LockBit, the cyber-criminal gang, claiming that they had compromised Darktrace’s internal security systems and had accessed our data. Our security teams have run a full review of our internal systems and can see no evidence of compromise. None of the LockBit social media posts link to any compromised Darktrace data. We will continue to monitor the situation extremely closely, but based on our current investigations we are confident that our systems remain secure and all customer data is fully protected.

Major Italian Online Gaming Company Selects Darktrace

May 26, 2016

Darktrace, the leader in Enterprise Immune System technology, has today announced that HBG Gaming, a leading Italian online gaming company, has chosen to deploy its ‘self-learning’ technology.

As broadband services expand and online gaming diversifies across smartphones, tablets and other devices, the entertainment industry is becoming increasingly exposed to sophisticated cyber-threats. Protecting customers’ personal and financial details is vital for HBG Gaming to provide a reliable gaming service and maintain its leading position as a trusted consumer brand.

The gaming company decided to trial Darktrace over a four-week period to test its ‘immune system’ approach and detect potential threats inside the network. Within a couple of weeks, Darktrace was able to identify anomalous behaviors in HBG Gaming’s network, including ransomware. Following the ‘Proof of Value’, HBG Gaming selected Darktrace’s Enterprise Immune System technology and now uses it across its corporate network.

Powered by machine learning and mathematics developed by specialists from the University of Cambridge, Darktrace models the behaviors of every device and user, as well as the network as a whole, to detect suspicious activity. Unlike traditional defenses that rely on rules and signatures, Darktrace understands a network’s ‘pattern of life’ and is able to detect new, evolving threats, including insider attacks.

“Darktrace’s approach is unique, and has already detected potentially-damaging threats inside our networks,” said Marcello David, Head of IT Security & Compliance, HBG Gaming. “We take security very seriously at HBG. By using machine learning, Darktrace’s self-learning technology gives us a real advantage in defending our organization.”

“We are excited to be working with HBG to better defend its critical assets against today’s sophisticated attacks,” said Corrado Broli, Managing Director, Italy. “Italian companies are increasingly prioritizing their cyber security, and Darktrace is happy to support those organizations fight back against difficult and evolving threats, with a fundamentally different approach.”
